It's controlled by direct current (DC), which makes it flicker-free at any given brightness level. The screen uses a White-LED (W-LED) backlight unit. Unless you're a creative professional with an established end-to-end 10-bit color workflow, you shouldn't lose any sleep over the 8-bit+FRC nature of Gigabyte M32U's panel. This isn't a true 10-bit panel though, but an 8-bit panel that uses Frame Rate Control (FRC), a method of temporal dithering, to create a perception of a 10-bit panel with 1,024 individual shades of RGB color. The effect of using these settings in HDR is different compared to non HDR contents where for example 20 backlight for me is definetly too high (and absolutely not possible if you're in a dark room), at the same time without dynamic contrast set to high the colors become too muted and not saturated, which is something that high dynamic contrast fixes (while normally in non HDR contents too much dynamic contrast makes the colors artifically saturated and not realistic).Picture QualityThe Gigabyte M32U features a 10-bit SS IPS panel capable of displaying 1.07 billion colors. I have been testing HDR with TLOU, Uncharted 4 and R&C with this TV and I've found that the best settings with HDR on are a bit different compared to what I used for non HDR content.įor me putting the backlight at 20 and dynamic contrast to high really enhances HDR on this TV. Dynamic contrast helps with that but it isn't a good solution because you'll some of the extra range the tv displays. Hdr is mastered to be viewed in a pitch black room, in a room with more light the image will start getting dimmer. People use this because they find the hdr image to dim, but it's supposed to be like that. Using dynamic contrast just brightens up the image a lot resulting in a loss of the higher range you can display. I have seen a lot of people say you need to use dynamic contrast but this is wrong. You could set it to auto but I noticed the tv doesn't always change it. Set color space to native to use the extra colors. The Samsung can handle max contrast without clipping so use it. A benefit to hdr is the huge increase in contrast.

This results in a image comparable to a normal image but highlights get way brighter. For normal content this results in a way brighter image but in hdr it works different. So for hdr games there are a few things you should keep in mind: Some of us use a very very small bit of sharpness on stuff like wiiu bc the tv looks soft on that resolution of content. Some recievers have issues and do not pass hdr through. Optical sound resets to pcm on tv with some devices when you switch input. Turn down or off to help, but dont forget high is wanted for hdr Smart led can bring out light issues in tv.

Use the proper hdmi cable 2.0 for hdr, aka the one that comes with the pro PSVR processing box will prevent hdr from working.

Switching to movie mode makes sense to me bc I swap between warm1 and 2 for each type of media Using game mode for movies and TV is probably OK. Turn anynet off in system expert settings if you dont want tv to power on systems hooked upĭo not use hdr+ mode. Settings > System > Expert Settings > Light Effect > Off Turn samsung light off it annoys you in system expert settings I find defualt is best on most.ĭo not forget to change your settings for all modes, including when hdr kicks in on netflix etc.

DISPLAYCAL SETTINGS FOR 4K HDR GAMING 720P
You can use digital clean view for clean looking 720p content if you wish

I leave digital clean view and auto motion plus off in movie mode. You will not get a notification like in gaming for hdr content Hdr content outside of gaming will turn backlight to 20. If you want 4k hdr streaming on netflix you will need to use the tv app until the ps4 one Smart led is reccomended to be on high for hdr. This is bugged, you will have to manually up the backlight to 20 for hdr game content in gaming mode and back to 5-10 when you are done. Make sure hdmi uhd color is on each input you use 4k hdmiĬolor tone warm 2 (this can be preference) again, calibrate if looking for perfect settings A calibration disc will tune this number to your specific panel, Set to preference and environment lighting, time of day etcĬolor at 50. I use backlight anywhere from 5 at night to 10 during day. Picture mode : movie, special viewing mode game This is on the the 55inch panel with a PS4 PRO. i will add notes, as some stuff is preference or varies by panel, environment and brightness. If you have the latest firmware, it is now right to set color space to auto instead.
